I started Whole Health with Lana as a way to encourage others to get healthy and make it as fun as possible. My goal is and always has been to emphasize just how important it is to balance food and fitness. When I first started, it was the beginning of COVID; it was difficult to be positive and pretend to know what I was doing behind the camera. I was brand new to this. I became overwhelmed you could say, but now that Whole Health with Lana is over a year old, I believe I'm coming full circle with my initial goal. I'm making food and fitness fun, and I'm encouraging balance over restriction.
My newest addition to this business is Whole Health Kids. I did this because, as a mom, it's hard to actually find balance (or even 5 minutes to myself). I decided to embrace the chaos and share it with others. I'm trying my best to be an example of how to take the health of you and your family and make it fun! Our kids watch everything that we do. They hear everything that we say. They are sponges, y'all! So, what better way to encourage healthy habits than through the act of play and quality time in the kitchen?
This kid-friendly video of us discussing colors and numbers while playing with Play Doh is one of my favorites because we make a yummy fruit dip at the end.
Apple Slices & Fruit Dip Recipe:
Apple Slices
1 cup nonfat plain greek yogurt
2-3 tbsp creamy peanut butter
2-3 tbsp honey
Optional: cinnamon to taste
Mix together yogurt, peanut butter, honey and cinnamon (if using). Dip apple slices and enjoy!
Quick Nutrition Knowledge: apples are a good source of fiber (1 medium apple contains 4g)
My goal with the Whole Health Kids videos is to encourage a balance in healthy habits (through activity ideas, yummy recipes, and creative play time). Sometimes we even bake! Again, this is about balance. Teaching kids that sweets are a "no no" just makes them want sugar more. Balance it out by baking together and indulging a little in some sweets. Our latest video: Carrots and Cupcakes do just that. We plant our carrots in the garden and bake our cupcakes in the kitchen. Balance! My hopes are that other kids (and parents) see this example and want to join the fun. An example of one of our activity ideas is our Red Light, Green Light Video. It doesn't take much to get the kids active. A simple game like this is enough to get them moving and encourage activity.
Another way to encourage activity, is to be the example yourself. Do you workout in front of your kids? Do you show them that it's fun to get active? Your activity can be walking, gardening, cleaning, etc. It doesn't have to be in the form of a fitness routine. On the other hand, sometimes it is just easier (or more effective) to have a workout in front of you and a trainer instructing you through it.
Again, I want to repeat: balance over restriction. Balance your fitness. Find an activity that makes you sweat and smile at the same time. Balance your food. Find healthy foods that you can enjoy daily and allow yourself to indulge in the other less healthy foods you enjoy on occasion. Balance your mindset. You should not exercise in order to punish your body for its looks. You should exercise in celebration of movement! You can set this example with your kids by finding fun activities to do around the house or in the yard. If you feel absolutely clueless on what to do for activity, don't get discouraged. Try something new with your kids! I teach an online group fitness class every Tuesday night at 6pm. Your first class is free. Grab your kids and your laptop or phone and join us for 45 minutes of sweaty FUN! In fact, on May 4th, we are doing a Kids Konga class, which will still be just as effective (if not more) than our normal routines. On May 1st, I am hosting a Mommy & Me Activity Day. I am meeting with other local moms at the park with our strollers and babies for a 5 mile stroll and play. We also begin our Online Walk Group Challenge on May 1st. There are so many options right now!
After over a year of educating myself on all things technology, I am happy to finally get back around to my initial goal for Whole Health with Lana and expand even more. As I continue to grow, I truly hope that my message comes through loud and clear and that I can help you and your family make healthy habits the easy option.
Thank you to all of you who have been there from the start.
