Everything is trial and error.
It's that time of year when I am constantly pulling weeds, watering the garden and planting new flowers. Good thing I have the boys who love to "help". Often times, on the weekends, we all work outside all day long and end up going the eat Mexican for dinner (or call in a pizza). No shame. We spent a few weekends in a row working on getting the garden ready, and it's finally complete (more on that later). The biggest change is adding the chicken coop! Well, the start of it at least. The boys have helped us a lot during this, and it's precious to watch. In the moment is another story though. We can only handle so many screws going missing in the grass and so much telling on each other. It has certainly made us practice our patience.
We decided to put the chickens right behind the garden for a lot of reasons. It's convenient for me to take care of everything in one area. The wellhouse is so close and can store whatever I need for the chickens. It's next to the woods, which means I can toss any of the scraps the chickens don't eat into the woods. We are going with a slanted roof so that I can collect rain water for the garden (eventually). We don't have a plan. We are beginners. I am currently reading a book on raising chickens as we get things ready. I know. I should have been more prepared, but so far, things are going well! In our next video, you'll get to see some of our mistakes and how we've corrected them. So, stay tuned!
