Our Christmas tradition.
My Grandmommy used to let all of us cousins make our own monkey bread at her house. It's the simplest way to make it, and it's super kid-friendly. I tape down wax paper so the kids can use it as a workspace for cutting up the biscuits. I pour the cinnamon and sugar in ziplock bags so that we can close the bags and shake the biscuits until they are completely covered. When I was a kid, I enjoyed cutting up each piece however I wanted and watching them bake in the toaster oven. I'm happy to bring this recipe to my kids because I have such good memories from my childhood while making monkey bread with my Grandmommy. She was very festive in the holidays, which is why I chose to start making monkey bread on Christmas morning as a new tradition. We lost my Grandmommy two years ago on Thanksgiving morning, but we will be baking in her memory every Christmas. Obviously, this isn't something I would make all of the time with the kids. It's mostly for special occasions. I just want to point out that while it's important to encourage healthy foods for our kids, it's equally important to show the practice of moderation with sweets. We shouldn't teach our kids to never eat sweets. We need to show them that it is okay to enjoy and to know when to stop. I hope you find a way to bring this recipe to your kitchen soon.
