Early Summer Gardening & Chickens

With the chickens growing so much, I needed to install another feeder. My husband made another one for me with extra PVC pipe, and I attached it next to the existing one with a zip tie. It's simple and effective. With these two feeders and a block of feed, the chickens stay fed for over two weeks, which is fantastic for when we go out of town. The water feeder holds three gallons of water, and I have two one-gallon water feeders in other locations throughout the coop. The water only lasts for a few days, but I will take it as a win because it means I'm not out there every single day refilling their water and food.

When I am out with the chickens, I try to keep my youngest preoccupied, which is why I bought him this sensory bin table. He loves it! It comes with little water/sand toys, and I even purchased some play sand to go inside as well. This usually entertains him long enough for me to grab any chicken eggs and clean up their water. By the time I make it into the garden, he is too interested in what I'm doing and ends up joining me. It's difficult to teach him how to not pick absolutely everything in the garden. There's no telling how many blueberries that were nowhere near ready that Abe has eaten.

In the garden, I have been picking all the remaining snap peas before I have to pull them up in the middle of all the summer heat. With the green beans and black eyed peas fast approaching, I will be moving on to picking and preserving them next. Our wild flower seeds completely took off this year; we have enjoyed picking small bouquets for inside the house along with fresh picked herbs. I actually made a couple of these for my oldest son's teachers as an end of the year gift. My sons have enjoyed spoiling the women in their lives with these little bouquets, which I love.
